The following brief skctcli of the life and military services of John Emery were read at the ritual services of Galva Post No. 33, G. A. R. at the SI E. Church thisafternoon, and will be permanently embodied in the records of the Post1Comrade John Emery wns born in North-Umberland County, Pennslvauia April 20, 180G In 1810 he removed to Richland Co , Ohio, where, in 1828, he married Mary Whittington, whose death occurred in 1874. In 1830 he removed his family to Stark county, III, and to Galva in 1857. Their family consisted of ten children of which five sons and one daughter arc now living.He enlisted in the military service of the United States May 11th, 1802. in Company I, G5tli Illinois Infantry and with the regiment was sent to the Army of the Potomac. Ho was in the battle at Har pers Ferry, Sept. 15, ’G2, and with the regiment was surrendered a prisoner. Being paroled, was sent to parole camp at Chicago, and when exchanged was ordered to the Army of the Ohio, then in East Tennessee, the 05tli Regiment being assigned to the Second Division, 23d Corps’ Army of the Ohio.
