YANK SHOT IN HEART ON ROAD TO RECOVERY.25 Calibre Bullet Lodged In His LeftVentricleDenver, Jan. IS (INS)--Shot in tin* heart by a Jap sniper with a .25-calibre bullet on the third day of the American invasion of the Philippines, Technician Fifth Grade George Marquis, New Haven, Mich., today was disclosed as a patient in the Army’s Fitzsimons General Hospital at Denver and “well on the road to recovery.”After being wounded, Marquis was in danger of immediate death as the bullet, lodged in the left ventricle of his heart, threatened to push through the cardiac wall and produce a fatal internal hemorrage, a hospital spokesman said.For that reason, it. was explained. Marquis was not evacuated by air hut was shipped by hospital ship and train to Fitzsimons General Hospital, where the bullet was# removed by army surgeons in a remarkable operation.Marquis, a switchboard operator with the 516th Division, is the son of Mrs. Mary Radek, (RFD.
