Almost at once he broke into violent speech.For two long hours Voros listened to the Fuehrer rant, calling Hungarians ingrates who were unreli-“Many of his enemies have said Hitler is mad.” Voros went on. “And I for one believe it.I believe It from the evidence of my own eyes and ears.”During his reply Hitler reportedly said to Voros:Now we are all sitting in one boat in a dreadful storm. He who jumps overboard—man or nation-wili surely drown. It is possible the boat will capsize. Hut it is more than likely it will reach land. To the last man, to the last drop of blood, I will defend the Fatherland.Describing Hitler as a man who looks “like a pig who has been fed too much,” Voros declared he plainly was sick in mind and body. The Fuehrer's confidence— or lack of it—in the possibility of a German victory was explained this way by Voros:His simile of Germany and Hungary as the last survivors of a shipwreck trying to wait out a storm in a lifeboat that might soon overturn was the nearest he came to predicting ultimate success for hisWhen Admiral Horthy told Voros he was going to announceby radio that Hungary was suing for an armistice Horthy was seized in his palace by Nasi troops along with his wife, his daughter-in-law and her small son.Voros claimed to know nothing of their fate except the German announcement that they are held Somewhere in the Reich.tA1lt;1t!1t
