Wild was a native of I*nca shire, England, and, for many yeara, was ’ Sergeant in fh$ 24th Regiment British 1 Infantry. He had been in this country but a abort time when the war hrnke hut,•n I rendered efficient aid in thi* county j in organizing and drilling the State U* t gion; but hi* admiration of military life f soon drew him into active service and be (joined the 81st Regiment Indiana Volnn- f tcers where his soldierly qualities soon j \ earned for him the commission of 2d Lieutenant, anti it was in the capacity of Captain, while leading hi* company, he - itfell—a victim to rebel bullet*—on his 11first battle-field. Had he lived, he would I no doubt have risen rapidly to distinctionin the Federal armv.; (He possessed an ingenious mind, stowediwith a large fund of general information, was kind and sociable, and possessed a j quiet, geniality of disposition, which cn-i1deared him to all who wore associated 1with him.Tie leaves a wife, parents and two children in England and many relations and j friends in this country to inonru his -loss.
