Jackson received word that their son, Hay L., 21, had been killed in action while in the Phillippine Islands, defending his country.Jackson volunteered into the army at the age of 20 and was sent to the Phillippines in April of last year. He was stationed on Corrigidor Island, located at the entrance to Manila Bay as an electrician in the Communications section thc*re at the time of bis death.Ray moved to Gaines County with his parents, where they have lived 6 miles north of Semino.c since 1924. His entire education was received in the Seminole Schools. He started as a student here in the fall term of 1929. oontinu.ng until three years ago when he was employed by the Shell Oil Corp.He was well known and liked by a host of friends who mourn his heroic death. The following resolution was composed and signed by his former teachers--Whereas, God in His infinite wisdom has seen fit to call from this world, our friend and former student, Ray Jackson; and Whereas, Ray was a good and earnest student, a loyal frier.d to all who knew him. giving of bis time to us as freely as he gave his life in the Phillippine Islands for his country and his community, to protect the ideals of democracy and to insure for his brothers and sisters and h?s friends the right of liberty and equality and the right to grow ir great democratic nation; now,erefore, — •—RAY L.
