VV. imsnamer.______ j ccIredell Soldier Dead — Trout-jcrlt;man News.Special Correspondence of The Landmark.TrouKman, Jan. 4 — The first fear-1 ful visage of war came home to us {j7, here Thursday night, when the re-|L| mains of Mr. James Josey arrived here from the camp at Columbia, S.C. Mr. Josey responded to the call 11 and went into training for national defence December 3d. Shortly after reaching camp he took measles. While convalescing from this malady he was stricken with meningitis, and on Tuesday evening last he answered the final roll call. The body was sent, here and removed to ^ his home, six miles south of here, where it remained in the old home over night. Friday interment took place at Bethel. *Rev. Mr. Cornell of Statesville preached the funeral.Mr. Josey was a fine specimen of /manhood. Peaceable, gentle, umia-hie, he had grown up in the commu- , nity and was known as an exceptionally fine young man. His first call to arms was deferred 00 days to enable him to harvest his large crop. When the crop was gathered in the young man reported for service.Young William Johnston, a neighbor of Mr. Josey’s who enlisted at the same, time, has been dangerously ill of pneumonia. It is now hoped that he will recover. About ten days ago his people were notified that he was seriously ill and his brother went to camp to see him. Since then a change for the better has taken place. 1Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Allison of Erwin, Tenn., are here on a visit to Mrs. Allison’s father, Mr. J. S. Waugh. Mr. Richard Torrence of Charlotte, after a week's vsiit here, has returned to his post as courier at Camp Green, Charlotte. Mr. A.M. Rankin went to Camp Sevier Saturday night to visit his son, who is stationed there.
