twuiitivu in'iiny 10 me Alamos.On the 19th we crossed the Alamos with some difficulty and no little danger, marched four miles to a river of the same size, called Las Sarinos (Cypress,) which we crossed, and met a messenger from the **authorities of Santa Rosa, who'stated that the Alcalde and principal men of that town would meet us, before wc readied it, to submit it to us, and tender its hospitalities.Marched eleven miles, to within one oiile of the town, and selected our camp. About two miles before we reached it, we suddenly became a-ware that directly in front of us, dimly seen through the smoky atmosphere, and scarcely distinguishable from clouds, stretched Eastward and Westward the most beautiful range of mountains myeyrscv-cr beheld. Santa Rosa lies at thefoot ol the ridge. Before the men had dismounted, the authorities had arrived, accompanied by an American physician, originally from Pennsylvania, as interpreter; and after due introductions, part of the officers, with n guard of ten men, accompanied them to the town. Santa Uo*a was surrendered in duo form, httccn soldiers, lelt there by Castaneda, ordered to he forthcoming the | next morning, with their arms, andI four mule loads of powder belonging ; to the Government, and we returned to ramp.
