On the 2C)til Sept., the four companies of Dragoons, Col. Harney, Commanding. Four companies of Illinois Infantry, with five companiesol Arkansas Cavalry, marched from • • •San Antonio, and on the Slit Oct. reached the Rio Del Norte, 170 miles, which river wc crossed on the 10th, end took possession of the Presidio Del Rio Grande, a town of some 1 (-01) souls, much dilapidated, and remarkable for nothing except a roguish and thieving population. Here we remained until the 15th,when Col. Hardin's Regiment having came up, Amjf.kt Pike’s Squadron of Arkansas Cavalry, composed 1 of his own company and that of hisj friend Cajit. John Preston, Jr., wasjscnt one c.ay in advance (the Armyj following on the 1Gt!i,) under com-j mand of Lieut. Col. Roane, of the.Arkansas Regiment, to accompany Capt. Hughes, and Lieut.
