Marine detachment is named for SchumacherA detachment of the Marine Corps League was formed in Hays recently, A group of about 30 former or active Marines, mainly from Ellis County, named the detachment in memory ofEdwin A. Schumacher, a Marine who fought on Iwo Jima and was killed in action on Okinawa in May 1945.Schumacher has two sisters living in Hutchinson: Charlotte Jenkins, 306 East 5th, and Sally Woods, 322 East 5th.The Marine Corps League consists of Marines who have honorably served or are now serving in the Corps or the Corps reserve.Schumacher
