BLAMED FOR ANYrLACK OF MORALECopt. Britton, Pacific War Zone, Telit MournfulMammas to Shut UpMournful mammal'' who wail over the hard canvas cots on which their soldier' sons have to sleep were thoroughly blamed today for any lack of morale in the armed forces by a young captain. In a letter to relatives in Troy. You tell the mournful mammas you meet for me, he suggested, that if they think they can help the war by worrying themselves and their soldiers sick to go ahead. If not, for heavens sake, to shut up and do something useful ”The letter from Capt. L. C. Britton came out of the Pacific war zon*» a few days ago to his parents who now live in Philadelphia. His mother is the former Miss Sarah Sherry Raymond of Troy and his father, George Britton, who was graduated from R. P. I. in 1909. He is a nephew- of Mrs. TTorman Burt Sherry. The letter was addressed to the folks and was sent on to Troy.Captain Britton spoke for a good many soldiers who are sick of letters which bewail their lot. H*wroteQuit Feeling Sorry.“Mother’s V-Jettlt;*r came today .She mentioned unhappy mammas and it makes me a little impatient. What the heck kind of par ents are ther* in the states these days? I firmly believe that if some of these mammas would quit feel* ing so sorry for Willie off fn some nasty old place where has to sleep on a hard canvas cot without sheets, and quit telling himwhat a hard life he’s living, all this tripe about morale would be relegated to its propf*r position in the war.I grant you Willie didn’t vote for the war and we’d all be a lot happier if the events leading up to it hadn't occurred, but I've got enough self respect to feel that the war was requierd to straighten out the mess. Not Easy.Captain Britton added:Of course it’s not comfortable and easy in the Army. If it was. everybody would be in the Army and no civilians left to take care of them. Bully beef and dehydrated potatoes get monotonous. The men have to work hard but they’re working for something that’s worth working for. They miss ice cream and dances, but it's all waiting for them when they get the job finished. There’s also the possibility of Willie getting blown out of his shirt by a bomb and he gets scared. Well, we all get scared, scared plenty, but there's nothing shameful in it. And that’s no excuse for expecting trouble. There’s just as much possibility of getting hit by a truck driver in civilian life as there is of getting shot in battle.Captain Britton said that he would be willing to bet that most of the bellyaching comes from men who are not in combat.I want to get home as much as anybody, tye concluded, that’s why I’m perfectly willing to be away as long as I’m needed over here—to get this job finished so 1 can go back and take up my life where I left off, in peace.BhJtlAcFst:css1101VgraeAiilarcIHamedatPo1Of!larMetgtcha!ofhalfroOawh1Gr;MaamEnMrMydismgtenamStaSyi1mawaMrRuancColSte-G.clit
