A l*S Appoints Pierce lo Head DistributionRUTLAND — Kenneth Piercehas been appointed general superintendent of distribution at Central Vermont Public ServiceCorp., it was announced this weekby L. Douglas Meredith, president and chief executive officer.Pierce will be responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the distribution system of Central Vermont that serves about 75 per cent of the state of Vermont and parts of New Hampshire. The system, largest in Vermont, serves about 84,000 customers, including the sale of electricity to 15 electric distribution utilities for resale. CVPS has a total of 5,963 pole-miles of distribution line operated at voltages ranging from 2.4 Kv to 12.5 Kv. The distribution system includes 146 substations.According to Seymour Robinson, who is in charge of CVPS electric operations, each of the company’s 11 districts has its own superintendent who will now report directly to Pierce.Pierce is originally from Montpelier, where he attended Montpelier High School. In 1949 he graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.He began work at Central Vermont in 1949 as an apprentice meter tester and has been with the company since then except for 18 months of military service in the Army Signal CorpsKENNETH PIERCEduring the Korean War.Pierce is a sports enthusiast and is active in community affairs, He is a director of theVermont Society of Engineers and is on several committeesin the Electric Council of New England and the Edison Electric Institute. He is a member of the Rutland Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and prepared the booklet “Educational Opportunities in the Rutland Area.” Pierce resides in Rutland with his wife, Mary, and his daughter, Linda, and son, Dean.
