Wagoner Ray Smith of the 130th F. A,, A. E. F. Writes to Father of East Monticello.Wishes to Return home to United States and see Parents andBrothers. The following letter has been received from Ray Smith, and is written to his father, Merrill Smith of ,|East Monticcllo. Ray is one of four; sons of Mr. and Mrs. Smith who are in the service. jFrance, Nov. 24, 1918. Dear Old Dad:—Today being the day for all members of the A. E. F. to write to their dads, I will take a little time and j pleasure in writing you a few short: linos to let you know thatT am still/. one of the living. And also to let you know that I was at the front when old Kaiser Bill and the Huns 1 played their last card. Our batteries were sending over a large issue of iron rations up to the end of hostili-i ties, and whein the time came to cease firing it seemed as though one gigantic voice reached all over the 1 world and said, “Peace, be still.” ' My first day on the battle field was ‘ a great day but my last day was1 greater still. We had rain nearly ev- ; ery day while the great guns were firing, but since that time we have had grand weather.Doc is well, and I had a letter from Bill last week and I know he is all right. I have not heard from Ernest! for some time, but I am sure he is all right. I am hoping for the day when we four brothers come march- j ing home and can say we did our best in the fight for the freedom of f ■ the world, and our dear mother and;] loved ones at home. I get homesick) ; and blue once in a while , but thg, 1 good jolly bunch of fellows I am J with soon drives it out of my mind. So let your days be bright and cheer? ' ful for before many days your four j old buddies will be home again and ■ we can talk over old times. 1I will close for this time, hoping ' that the coming Christmas may be 1 the greatest you have ever had. Greetings to all. My address is,Wagoner Ray Smith, 1Supply Go. 130111 F. A., A. E. F, ]via N. Y.
