SOLDIER'S LETTER.Dec 23. 1913. ily Dear Stella:Am veil and feeling lino orcr aytrip to far. hoping this will find you all the samo.I thought 1 would start you a letter and have It ready to mail when I landed in New York.This is our tenth day at sea. Think wo will make It In tomorrow or Christmas. Would like to hSTO mado it homo by Christinas, but gucit It will be all right a little later.We left London on the 15tb of De-comber. Would have cot to New York In about nine dsya but the aea was to rough we coaldnt make good time.1 wrote you 1 didn't get seasick going orer but I can't say that about this trip. I was sure sick for two days. Good food for tho fish. But I wasn't the only one. Everyone wsa sick— doctors, nurse and alt For two days no one could go op on deck for tho waves wero coming over. There were about 2.600 on the ahlp. counting crew and alt. I was sure lucky getting to come over on a hospital boat Haven’t had my wound dressed but one© since I started at It didn't need 1L 1 never hated anything so bad In all my life that I made that big mistake in using amputated for operated. For that waa some stunt I pulled oft Wasn't It? All tho same 1 am proud It was a mistake and I am sure yon will be.I don't know how long they will keep us when wo get to the 8tates, but 1 am in hopes It won't bo long.Some aay wo will bo taken to our nearest hospital and then those thatare able will get a SO-days furlough and then report hack for their discharge. I am one that will be ready for the trip as quick as I can get off.You wrote me you were coming to meet me when I got to the States. I am afraid I will not be in one pUco long enough for yon to come.So don’t be surprised If 1 walk in on the hack porch most any time.Well. 8te11ar will ring off for tonight and finish when I land. I am anxious to see the “Statue of Liberty.” So good nightDecember 29. Well, have arrived In New York safe and sound. Have fust had dinner and am feeling fine. Got in about 10 this morning.Guess we will gat off this after noon. Wo were certainly glad to see land again, especially New-York. WUl be home soon. ! heard since 1 landed they were sending them borne aa fast as they could.Well, 1 have been taken from theship to the hospital.Have sent you a telegram so yoa will know where and bow I am.Am at tho Y. M. C. A. now. Seems to be a fine place. Don't have anything to do only line up for our meals. The mess line Is ono mllo long, and it takes about all onr time for thatBut the way they are sending tho boys out gneia I won't be here long. Thero was a big bunch left for different parts of the 8tates today, t don’t knoi( whore they will send me. I hope It will be Comp Taylor.Guess you are having fino weather now. Today is a fine December day. Actually the sun Is shining and 1 hadn’t seen the sun for some tlmo. It never did shlno in England. So that Is a good sign we ero back to God’s country once more.Well. 1 hadn't told you of our Christmas. We tried to make the best of It we could. It was ooo Christmas that I never spent one llko before and I am sure 1 never want to spend another one.Guest you all had a big time, but nevertheless we will hare another holiday when I get home.
