This past summer we had eight cadets selected for various summer aid cadet camps. LAC’s Celeste Lowe, Armand Lowe and Rhonda Klyne attended a two week basic course. Sgt Roland Holness and Cpl Ruth Coupland attended a three week Air Studies course and Cpl Micheal Dauk attended a three week junior leaders course. On Dec. 14 the cadets held their Christmas card fund sented with a certificate and trophy raiser in the valley. Sgt. 1996.cessfully completed their course and v 1 519 Sqn cadets, staff and parents were proud of their accomplishments.Air cadets resumed the second Monday in September and since then we have been quite busy with our mandatory7 training and many other activities. In September we assisted the Knights of Columbus with their annual fund raising/canvass which enables the K of C to carry out several of their worthwhile lt;immunityprojects. The first weekend of October we were in Brandon tor our fall gliding. We travelled down Friday, were billeted at CFB Shilo overnight, glided all day Saturday and returned next evening. Mid October saw us starting our practice each Friday for drill competition to be held in February 97. November turned out to be a very busy month for both Air Cadets and parents. November 9 the cadets canvassed the valley in support of the Legion Poppy campaign. It was very successful and the Legion duly thanked the cadets for their efforts.On November 11, the Air Cadets and staff participated in several Remembrance Day services within the valley. The following weekend, the cadets went to Melita for a curling bonspiel. After a full day Saturday of curling, they were treated to a supper provided by the Melita parents and Legion. This was followed by presentations and a dance for all cadets attending the bonspiel. On Sunday they returned to Swan River. On November 28, the parents and cadets conducted a bake sale at the Co-op.On November 30519 was to be taken on a familiarization flight of the valley by a Dash 8 from 402 Sqn in Winnipeg. After a short wait at the airport we were informed of the cancellation due to weather. It has been rescheduled for January. Also during the month of November we were to be visited by a Search and Rescue Here, from Winnipeg. This was cancelled due to military commitments however it is anticipated to be rescheduled for the spring of 97.On December 2, 519 held its annual fall pot luck supper at which awards and promotions are a big part of the evening.
