Shestruck on the dangerous rocks known as *‘the beats of hell” nearStornoway harbour and only aboutthirty of them were saved, many of these terribly injured in their efforts to reach the shore. All thecers and crew of the Iolaire were lost. The Iolaire was a vessel of302 tons.
