[wrote, I’ve seen France and Greece, os- It’s interesting to see so manyer, places, but I must admit some area slight disappointment to me. I thought Greece would be a beauti* A ful little country with woodeda mountains and rushing streams, in-isy stead the mountains seem barren ng and the streams sluggish. The in- Alps, however, are very pretty, all led so white with snow. Italy is a very in nice country, I have found. The r’s country as a whole is mountainous e- but the valleys are filled with neatly kept farms. The people, al though poor, are much better off ay than the natives in North Africa, da The houses arc usually made of•n- stone and are fairly clean. The11 roads are usually good and the to main ones are lined with trees, n- Wheat is grown along with olives ng nuts, oranges and grapes. The stocf o! is poor. Our American horses, cow.1 hlt; and sheep would put the breeds 1er have seen, in the shade. Perhaps il this letter sounds like a traveling is but I thought it would be interest-r ing to you.” Lieutenant Sporer ha r; many friends in Stephenville who! lt;’ are interested in his welfare.
