Purple HeartIn a cercmnn.v held at the U. S. Naval Reserve Training Center last night RobertPhelps of Willtamstown waspresented the Purple Heart awarded posthumously to his son. Hospital Corpsman Third Class David Clayton Phelps. Lieutenant Commander Alfred J. Ketehen, commanding officer of the local U. S. Naval Reserve Training Center, made the presentation, alongwith the National Defense Service Medal, the VietnamService Medal and the Repub*lie of Vietnam Campaign Rib* bon Bar. during the weekly drill of the officers and men of Naval Reserve Surface Division 3*86 (M). Petty Officer Phelps graduated from Alt* mar-Parish-Williamstown High School where he was a well-known athlete. He was killed in action September 5, 1%?. at Quang Tin. South Vietnam, as a result of enemy rifle fire while serving with the I. S. Marine Corps as a Hospital Corpsman.
