H Y D R O-AEROPLANE BASE*May Be Located at Punta Gorda at an Early DateThe following despatch from Will P. Kennedy, the Washington correspondent of the Tampa Times, dated Tuesday, appears in •yesterday’s issue of the Pam pa Times:“'Punta Gorda may get a naval hydro-aeroplane station. This is the opinion token hack to Florida by a delegation which has been in | conference with navy department1 officials. Sen. Duncan I*. Fletcher who- introduced the Florida men to the war work chieftains in Washington, also feels there is a good chance for Punta Gorda to get the navy hydroaeroplane training school.“Officials of the navy department were much interested in the data presented by the Floridians and promised to send an inspector to Punta Gorda soon to look the. location over. It is known on good authority that the govern- . merit, is earnest in its purpose to develop this branch of naval war-1 fare, and will probably establish ; at least two such stations in the south.More than ten localities that arc applicants for hydro-aeroplane stations and it is thought all of these will he inspected within the next, three weeks.“C. M. Carrier from Punta Gorda, and Civil Engineer Clay from Arcadia were with Sen. Fletcher t in conferences at the navy depart- , ment. They have returned to Florida optimistic that Punta Gorda will at least receive friendly consideration.”Besides the foregoing, there is .it prospect that private partiesmav use this location for the man-•ufaeture of air-planes. If the envy and jealousy of other towns, from which Punta Gorda has often suffered, do not interfere, this prospect is very likely to become,a i oality.
