Selective ServiceIssues MemorandumThe Veterans* Assistance Division, State Headquarters for Selective Service. Richmond. Virginia, lias issued the following memorandum to all Local Hoards and Reemployment Com* niitteemen of the Selective Service System in Virginia:1. In an effort to serve the dual purpose of assisting veterans interested in Agriculture in obtaining employment therein and to aid in relieving the acute conditions existing in agriculture, an arrangement has been made with the Extension Service at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blacksburg, Virginia, to utilize the services of the County Agricultural Agents in bringing to the attention of returningj servicemen the advantages and opportunities offered In agriculture and especially the opportunity for on-the-job training under the educational provisions of the lt;1. L Bill or Rights.2. A pamphlet on the subject oT (mining in vocational agriculture liasbeen prepared by the Department of Vocational Education, V. P, l, in cooperation with the State Department: of Education, Division of Vocational Education in Agriculture. Tills pamphlet will give I lie veteran the essential information on the subject and is being distributed to the Local Hoards in Virginia to be made available tlt; interested ex-servicemen.:t. In furlherunce of this plan, it: is requested lluit each Local Board, after consultation with flic local County Agricultural Agent, arrange to furnishthe County Agricultural Agent thenames of ad veterans as promptly aspossible after Lheir separation fromI he service. It will then he the purpose of the County Agricultural Agent to contact these veterans personally and Inform them with regard lo this program and as to the opportunities they have in agricult ora I trainingand employment.When the Department of Vocational Education, V. P. L, ami the Division of Vocational Education in Agriculture, State Department of Education. pref Hired and issued an informative pamphlet for veterans interested in training in vocational agriculture*. the State Director of Selective Service agreed to the distribution of I lie pamphlel through the Local Boardoffices. In a further effort to interestveterans in agricultural opportunities, the Selective Service System in Virginia offered to furnish the names of ret it ruing veterans to the Agricultural Extension Service so tlml each ex-serviceman might have his individual nPetition called to the advantages offered.
