Washburn, 122 Cornwell St., enlisted in the United States Air Force at Syracuse on Dee. 7 for a 4-year tour of active duty.A June 1963 graduate of Penn Yan Academy. Gary had been employed at the James Herrick farm prior to enlisting. He was processed by SSgt Marvin P. Ressico. local USAF Recruiting Service Representative, 152 Castle St., Geneva.Gary departed from Hancock Field, Syracuse, on the eveningof Dec. 7 for the overnightflight to lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, where he is undergoing eight weeks of basic training. Subjects hewill study in basic are Customs and Courtesies of the Air Force, Drill and Ceremonies, Military Law, Leadership, Code of Conduct, Physical Conditioning and Chemical/Radiological. Uponcompletion of basic, Gary will receive technical training in the area he chose prior to enlistment. This was possible because Gary was administered the Airman Qualifying Examination without obligation, and the results were then used in termin-ing the best trainable area.
