Schenclc, Sherlock and Gaff Above, and MorganBelow Memphis—Gilmore to Receive a NewShaft from St. Louie.Memphis, Feb. 27.—The XT. P. Schenck, with a fairtrip, passed up last night, doing but little business here.The Howard departed with 1,000 bales ootton and 500tons oil cake. The Bean had ,1,200 bales cotton, 1,500sacks oil cake, 4,000 sacks oil meal, 200 bbls oil, and 40 cabin passengers, Including W. L. Trask, river editor of the Avalanche, and bride. The Gaff got away for Cincinnati after dark, with 452 bales ootton, 50 bales rags, 324 car wheels and 55 passengers. The John Dippdld and barges passed up tins evening. The beacon light tender Alice passed down. The JBelle Shreveport,with 1,-600 tons and 40 passengers, passed down at dark. She added 2,900 sacks of corn lielow Cairo, and six miles below liere will take on 40 tons of staves. The Sborlock, with 500 tons, passed up to-night, adding here’00 balesof cotton and 148 bbls of oil. The Charles Moi gan, with 1,400 tons and 170 passengers passed dow i at noon, adding below Cairo 400 bags of corn, and at this port 50 bbls of lime. The John Gilmore, which passed here day before yesterday, broke her shaft, about fifteen inilos above Helena, where she is tied up, awaiting a new shafts which has been ordered from St. Louis. A. O. Russell, the Cincinnati job printer, is vistiting Memphis cn route to New Orleans. Husseil learned piloting from Cincinnati to St. Louis before the war, under Captain Henry Symmes. Col. Nic. M. Jones has returned from New Orleans. The flatboats of Pleasants and Patton, with com, .also those of Capts. Leu-ning and Rudolph, from near Washington, Davis Coun-ty, Ind., have arrived here, on their way south. Their cargoes are chiefly corn and meat. It is probable that one of the boats may sell out here. Capt. W C. Hardwick goes to the Ohio to bring out 45,000 bush corn, to supply the coast demand at the lower rivers.
