cArthur, William Davis Receive Purple HeartMr. and Mrs. Glen Davis of Brush Pork, this week received the Purple Heart, awarded posthumously to their soft, ArthurJames Davis. Bm first class in the U. S. navy, who was killed in action on August, 24, 1942, while serving aboard the U. S. Enterprise. V 1 «*Another son, William Howard Davis, seaman second class, has also received tjie Purple Heart for w’oundfi received in action, and Mrs. Davis has been notified by the Navy department that her name has been added to the listof mothers for consideration tochristening a vessel in honor ofher son.Mrs. Davis is shown with her two sons, Arthur, right, and William, left. *Both boys received their training at Norfolk, Va., and William was on his way to join his brother when Pearl Harbor was attacked. William was in 10 major battleand was wounded in action on October 26, 1943, while serving abroad the U. S. S. Enterprise, the same ship on which his brother lost his life.Arthur had served in the navy for five years before he lost his life and w-as at Pearl Harbor whenthe first attack came. Williaip hasserved for two and one-half yearsand having recovering fromwounds, is now back on dutysomewhere in the South Pacific. His wife, the former Edith Bowling, Bramwell road, has received his Purple Heart award.In a letter from an officer of the Enterprise, the Davis family was informed Arthur was killedin a “very vital engagement with the enemy’ and “Arthur’s part in it was above and beyond* strict call of his duty. He was struck when running across the deck to fight a fire.”
