222Friday, February 27,1942.MiscellanyRush County War News: J. Robert Shanahan of near here is now a quartermaster’s auditor at Camp Chaffee which is being built at Fort Smith, Ark. He can be addressed at Q. M. Detachment, Camp Chaffee, Fort Smith, Ark. . . . Harold B. Kessler, formerly of near Manilla, is in the Coast Guard and his address is Buffalo C. G. Base, Box 2010, Buffalo, N. Y. . . . The local draft board has received no official word on the proposed plan to immediately induct into the Army all the boys who pass their finalphysical exams at Indianapolis. Under this plan, registrantsfound acceptable for service would be taken in right now butthey would receive a furlough to enable them to return homeand wind up their businesses. . . . Only one transfer card of aman who signed up in the last registration before the regular“R” Day on February 16 has been received by the Rush countyboard. Charles John Alter registered in New York on February15, as in big cities men were permitted to register a day or twobefore the regular day. Incidentally, this card brought to 1,017 the number of Rush county registrants.
