Antonio Cavazos Awarded Purple Heart MedalPrivate First Class Antonio I Cavazos, ninteen year-old-Infan j t-—*nn formerly with Merrill’s ders and now a patient at o General Hospital, Long-\ Texas, was presented with the Purple Heart for wounds received in action against the enemy, at formal Retreat cere-j monv on February 22 by Col. G. V. Emerson, Commanding Officer of Harmon.Private Cavazos was first scout with a squad assigned to knock out a machine-gun nest in North Burma on June 22 and was wounded by a Japanese 25 caliber gun and hand grenade. He was returned to the States I in September. Pvt Cavazos was inducted into the Army in August 1943 and received his basic 1 training with the 42nd Rainbow Division at Camp Gruber, Okla-i homa., Pvt. Cavazos's mother, Mrs. Thomasa Cavazos, lives at 1216 Willis Street, Laredo, Texas.
