* » r'Peninsula Mayor ServingHis 26th Year in OfficeMARBLEHEAD, Feb. 25—So many Ohio inayors who had served all the way from 10 to 20 consecutive years in office, sprang into the lime* light following last November’s election that the one who, perhaps, has been a mayor for a longer period than any other, was overlooked.George S\ Eberwinp has been mayor of this Lake Erie shore village at the apex of what is popularly known as “the Peninsula” 26 years—and is still . “going good”, with every indication that if he lives and keeps his health, he will be mayor for many years to come, providing of course, he wants to be.It has been “Maor Eberwine” for so long in Marblehead that the people would find it hard to say “Mayor something else”.When one thinks of Marblehead it is to associate the mayor with the village and when one thinks of Mayor Eberwine—well, vice versa. As mayor of Marblehead Mr. Eberwine has—and always has had —Marblehead’s best interests atheart. To him there are no democrats or republicans; no rich, no poor. The people all look alike to .the Marblehead mayor—and that’s why, perhaps, that the mayor has been re-elected and re-elected until at the present time, he is serving his twenty-sixth year in office.Mayoring Marblehead, however, isn’t Mayor Eberwine’s only business. Not by any means. It used to be said that Mayor T. B. Alexander had more jobs than any other one man in the Lake Erie section. Ho may have still—but if he has he must admit that Mayor Eberwine is pushing him hard forthe honor.Mayor Eberwine holds down sevenselective or appointive jobs. Besides he is fc. director .of the Marblehead bank and is in private business otherwise.Georg© If, JtfberwlneNot long ago Mayor Eberwine claimed the . public gaze by reason of having held a session of bedside court. He was ill. There was court work to be done and as he could hot go to it he had it brought to him.Personally Mayor Eberwine is-r as they say in Marblehead—“one of the finest fellows you ever met”.When it comes to work—well,, the mayor is a veritable “Whale”.
