For his distinguished service in the Air force,,Sergeant Weberling wasawarded the Good Conduct and the• • • • •National defense Medals.Month. He was chosen for his dedicated efforts in service to the veterans of Calhoun County, the members of Chapter 313, and hiscommunity.After graduation from MarshallHigh School in 1966, Don entered the United States Air Force. He was sent to Basic Training at Lackland AFB, TX, and upon completion was sent to Jet Engine school. Dons first assignment was to Minot AFB, ND, with F-106 aircraft. Weberling was then set to Vietnam in August of 35lh FieldMaintenance Squadron, Phan RangAir Base.This assignment landed him in the “Nam” during the height of the ‘Tet” offensive. His Squadron worked around the clock repairing and ensuring the air readiness of the B-57 “Canberras” and F-100 “Super Saber”. In August 1968 Don boarded the “Freedom Bird” at CamRahn Bay for his next assignment to K.I. iSawyer AFB, MI. For his distinguished service while in the “Nam”. Don earned the VietnamW.Service and the Vietnam CampaignMedals.For the remainder of his Air Force enlistment, Don remained atm I •K.I. Sawyer AFB. where he workedk • f *After his discharge in 1970 he* • •returned to Marshall. Don has twochildren Stacy and Matthew• •Weberling, who reside in BattleCreek. Don worked at Fred’s1 ®Standard Service in Marshall until 1977. After several other successful jobs, Don returned to Fred’sStandard Service in 1984 where he• % •remains today.Don joined Chapter 313 in 1988. Don serves as the Chaptersrepresentative at the Michigan StateCouncil Meetings, he has served as a Chapter Board Member, is a volunteer representative at the Veterans Hospital in Battle Creek, running programs for the bowling and golf leagues. Don is active inservice to the community in distributing Thanksgiving andChristmas baskets, participating in various community parades, veterans functions, painting blitzes, and through the Battle Creek AreaChristian Fellowship where don is%an active member. Don became a member of the Marshall Lions Club in 1990 and served as a board member, and serves as chairman of the Mint Sales.
