BY BILL WILSONLinda V. Encke. 25, of 3055 Century Lane. Eddington, is a very brave young woman whether she knows it or not.Linda, better known as Lt. Encke, a U.S. Air P'orce nurse, will be leaving next Saturday for Tan Son Nhut Air Base in the war-torn Republic of South Vietnam.The pert Bensalem High School graduate will leave Monday for Travis AFB in California on her way to Vietnam.* * *Why’s a young woman wantto go to Vietnam?“So 1 can do my part in the war and be a real help as a nurse where I’m needed,” she explained.♦ * *Linda, a graduate of Temple University School of Nursing, has a brother Ted. also in the Air Force, who recently re turned from Tan Son Nhut, where he was a flight surgeon.Said the young nurse,Nursing in Vietnam will be a great challenge to me. it'scompletely different than stateside nursing.”“Over there.” she related there really is a need for nurses and our boys do need some cheering up and mostly help.” , ■Linda, who volunteered for the assignment, is well aware she will be based in the hotbed of the current Viet Cong offen-itii.“I’m not scared,” she noted, “but I’m a little apprehensive.” ,She explained that if the going gets rough at the small field hospital at the base, she can take care of herself—she has had training and qualifiedwith the M-l rifle.The only thing I really fear,” she related, “is the high disease rate in Vietnam. But I’m going to try to study it and see what I can do.”So next Saturday Lt. Linda Enck« a 25-year-old nurse, will be winging her way to VietnamIt’s a place full of bombs, bullets, death and disease. Certainly not a place for a woman, but to Linda Encke it is a challenge.
