Pate, who was killed in action on Okinawa June 11, 1945, was the second}.Marine son of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Pate to die in Pacific battles.His younger brother, T/Sgt, Charles S. Pate, was killed on Tarawa in November, 1943.Pvt, John Pate, a graduate of the Mt. Vernon township high school, was employed in the oil fields prior to his induction into the service. He was married and the father of three children.Pfc. Kermit SternPfc. Kermit H. Stern was 27years of age when he was killed in action on Okinawa May 13, 1945.He resided in Mt. Vernon a year prior to his induction into the Army September 13, 1944. Hewas employed in the oil fields.He was with the 7th Infantry Division of the Tenth Army.Pfc.
