Lecture On Japan.Lieut. S tee vers of the tlth Infantry delivered an illustrated lectuer on Japan at Fraternity hall Tuesday j 8 evening after the inspection of Company D. The lantern slides were exceptionally good, showing the scenes during the Ru?so-Japanesewar. The views of the tombs of the dead Mnchu rulers and the scenes from life in both China and Japan were very* interesting. Lieut. S teevers Is an Interesting talker and his familiarity with his subject added much to the charm of the lecture.Preceding the lecture on Japan Adjt. Gen. Barkwell gave a short talk on the aims arid purposes of the National Guard. He said the object was to secure the boat type of citizens to Join the organization andIn that way make each company representative of the communities from which they were recruited. He told of the advantages to a town having a company in the guard, how the organization added to the social life of the community and the standard maintained aided the youth of the country both morally and physically.During the evening Mrs G. A. Harris sang a very beautiful solo, accompanied by Miss Winifred Patten on the piano and Dr M* H. Smith onthe violin.A quartette consisting of 11. H Hi me. R. J. Extra. L. O. Gray and J. p. Arnott. Jr, contributed to the enjoyment of the evening.A large audience was present andenjoyed the very interesting program.
