“BUD SffiRMER HEARD FROM.tl-Bann, Germany,. 20,491:9.X -Yur letter of recent... »-..received; was very glad, to learn bow the people of Mt)drow were getting along - and also of what they thought of the boys otter here. Dad, I1haven’t much to tell but willsay that I- was on the fro?# from August 20th until Nov. 1st, that is 1 was under shell4fire and on the front lines, andwe are still holding our of the lines. Of course I win the hospital for fourteen^days after being wounded, but'after that time I retarded to^ *my company at the front, and we are getting along very well now. The people here treat us fine, just as nice as they can; would give us anything they have, but the bad part of it is they haven’t anything to give.Tell Aunt Florence Mabray to lave me aome hog aa I haven’t had any pork aince I cane to the front. I saw Charlie Dodaon the other day—him and I put on a win® Show once in a while— that's about all the pleasure we get over here. Tell Bill Faulkner I appre*elate his coming and asking how oldBud is getting along* Tell him and the rest of the boys I am very glad wecleaned dip on the Huns before they had•# *to come oA*r,There might have been lot* of theboys wanting to come but if they got♦over here and had to go to the front, the drat shell that fell around themthey would wish that they were back#home. I very well remember the first one that fell among our company,• .......rand the good Lord was with me for it missed me about 50 feet, I say 50 feet but Dad, I won't swear to that, for 1 was geared just as bad as any of theboys. But anyway we all scattered♦lt; *like a bunch of quails, but we soon** ' ifot used to them and didn't mind {ht.romuch. They would come^ over sometimes a hundred per hour and that is very few after being on the march or advancing. When we stopped we had to dig us a hole in the ground or getknocked off when daylight came. We had our choice so you see we were basy at all times. Well, D^d, I haven'jt much to say this time-but will write more next time. Give my best regards to all who ask about me, and tell the Muldrow boys that Bud hopes to be home in the near future. Give the kids my love, also my wife and babies. Write often as we sure appreciate hearing from home.m*1i « , ■»'Your Son,Marriott M, Sherroer,Co. G, 358th Inft, A. E. F., France,*
