Frank Walker Music Company. Mr. Stone made an early success out of the music business and has built up an acquaintance second to none in Southwest Missouri. He travels out of the city and takes care of virtually all of the town trade.Another live enterprising salesman connected with the Burke Music Company is O. B. Whittaker, who is employed as salesman. Mr. Whittaker has lived in Joplin virtually all his life and in addition to having i made a decided success of the music business has engaged in other lines of business on his own responsibility and has scored a big success. Boucher—Photo by AlcGuire.Four Million Cigars a Year.It sounds big and it is big and it establishes the Boucher Cigar company as the leading cigar factory in the state of Missouri. Leon S. Boucher started business in Joplin upon January 1, 1904, at 418 Joplin street, upstairs where the old Home Telephone company headquarters used to be. From a payroll of five hands at that time it has developed until he now has 90 employes.His first place of business In Joplin was not large enough to meet his'requirements and soon thereafter he ; moved to 311 Virginia avenue, where he remained six years. Three years ago he moved to larger and more modern quarters at 618-620 Jopliu street, where his present place of i business is located. Sales of cigars in 1915 surpass any previous years by 14 per cent. Quality is the watch word upon which Mr. Boucher has built up a large cigar business and because of the sterling worth of his goods he now employes five salesmen who cover the states of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. His leading brands of 10-cent cigars are the El Giro and Charles IV. A few of the most popular of his 6-cent brands are the Mark Twain, Little Cuba, Boucher’s Hand Made, Boucher’s Havana Special and Boucher's Real Perfecto. “Set a high standard of quality,” says Mr. Boucher, “and then maintain that standard.” His patrons have learned to expect this, and he never disappoints them. ThVs policy has made him satisfied and permanent customers and this is the greatest asset any firm can possess. The dealers and discriminating smokers have shown their appreciation in the past, enabling him to break all previous records in regard to output during 191*5, and it is his intention to inerit their confidence and support in the future by maintaining the same high standard of quality.S. For 18 years Mr. Ornduff has been engaged in the hardware business in Joplin. When he first came to this city he was in partnership with Arthur Rannabar-ger, near Third and Main streets, but later moved to much larger quarters, which he now occupies.Mr. Ornduff is a native Missourian, having been born in Lafayette county in this state.
