AMERICAN LEGIONWill Present French Memorials on Sunday,February 22.The Harry G. Meyers Post of Cannelton,and the Perry County Post, of Tell Cityto hold joint ceremony at CourtH ouse in Cannelton.At a recent meeting of tlie Harry G. Meyers Post it was decided to start a movement to have a county ceremony at the Court House for the presentation of the French Memorial Certificates to the families of the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the late war. A committee was appointed and they immediately got in touch with the Perry County Post of Tell City, inviting them to. co-operate In this matter and that their post be guests of the Harry G. Meyers post on that day. Although the Perry Co. Post was already making their plans yet they entered heartily into the plans for a county affair and their committee is working with the committee from the Harry G. Myers Post to make this indeed an occasion when all Perry County will pay again a tribute to their fallen heroes and their families.and the public of Perry county is invited to attend*.The A.merican Legion was selected by the United States and French Governments as the agency for the distribution. In carrying out the presentation of the certificates every preparation is being made by the two posts of Perry County and our efforts are to a “cause that commands ourdeepest respect and a ceremony that j will establish once and for all what this great brotherhood is doing in the interest of those less fortunate thanourselves.”This certificate shows a group figure from the cenotaph in the Avenue des Champ Elysees, Paris. In the scroll above are the dates “1914-1919.’' Above the group is the quotation from Victor Hugo, which translated, reads: “To the memory of - of theInvitations arc being sent out to the immediate families of all the soldiers who died in the service whether in this country or across the seas and to the War Mothers of Perry County.Hon. La vega Clements of Owensboro has been invited to deliver the address of the afternoon and there will be other brief speeches and a musical program. This ceremony willbe held at the county COURT HOUSE, SUNDAY, AFTERNOON, FEB. 22ND,United States of America, who died for the liberty during the great war. the homage of France.” and the engraved signature of the President ofof the French Republic, Raymond Poincare.The following is a list of the soldiers who died in the service together with the names of their nearest kin who will reecive the French Memorial Certificates. There will be no public presentation of these certificates but will be delivered immediately after the close of the ceremony:irKilled in Action.1.
