BACKS NEW HAVEN’SCLAIM TO BIG GUNSoldier Tells How Co B,102d, Took One Now Here• ' Special Dispatch to the Globe !NEW HAVEN, Feb 15-^Further support of the claim that the big German gun that Is now lodged in Boston rightfully belongs'to .this city because It wascaptured in the first instance by Co B of the 102d Regiment was given today when private Peter Geenty of 92 Carmel st, proud possessor of two gold service chevrons and two wound stripes, a member of the 102d Supply Company, visited the office of Mayor David E. Fitzgerald and there told the story of the capture of the gun.Geenty states lie was engaged in bringing supplies from .the third to The first line trenches, where the Blues were located, when the capture1 was made. ^SeverA1 attempts had been made by a detachment of Co B to capture the huge German gun, but. due to the fierceresistance of the Germans^ they, were unsuccessful,” he said. Finally .our boys succeeded in driving'the Germansawav from the gun. The next step was an attempt to pull the* prize to a. place of safety. One of the Army auto trucks was utilized, but was unable to budge the gun. Then a number .of-teams' or mules, one of whlclv I had jhst used to bring up a load of supplies, were pressedinto service.
