GRATEFUL SOLDIERS.Greenwood’s Contingent Not Unmindful ofTheir Admirers.The Greenwood contingent appreciate the interest taken in their welfare by our citizens, and have sent the following graceful acknowledgment:Nelhon, B. C , Feb. 9, 1900. My Dear Whiteside:We have just rececivod your telegram announcing the most munificent gift with which the people of Greenwood City are presenting us, and the whole of the Greenwood contingent thank you from all their hearts. The patriotism and good will to ourselves, which has prompted you to such an act o', benevolence, will urge us to uphold the fair name of Greenwood through all trials and dangers which we may have to face in South Africa. It will interest von towhear that we are to he drafted in the same section, and to ride on duty and in battle together. We are few, hut we «rust our hearts may prove a«* stout and willing as thoHe of men representing any other town in the country.Once more thanking you, and wishing every one happiness and prosperity, we bid you all farewell. O’Brien.For Queen and Empire.The Nelson Tribune pays Lieutenant Leckie the following well merited compliment :“While the rank and file of tin contingent recruited in the Kootenay for the Strathcona Horse are in the main natives of the land across the sea, the one officer that has been alloted to Kootenay is a native of Canada. Lieutenant *Leckie will do honor to the land of his birth, and if the fortunes of war permit of his return, the reception that awaits him in Kootenay will eclipse the send-off that was given him and his men.”
