After cessation of hostilities, Capt, Bates commanded a company of the 5lh infantry regiment in the army of occupation until June, 1946, when he returned for discharge.Capt, Bates took training at Ft. Bcnning, Ga, and was aide to Gen. R. L. Spragms in the activation of the Tlst division in 1943. He went overseas with the division in 1945 in time for the battle of the Bulge.Bates is now a co-owner of Marty's Cafe at 700 West Broadway.Kbwi Wmiit —
