AWARDED PURPLE HEARTTech. Sgt. Grant Carter, son of Mrs. Wanda Carter of Morehead, who has I een home on furlough for thirty days, has been sent to the Army Air Forces Redistribution Station in Miami, Florida, where he will receive his next assignment.Sgt. Carter was a radio operator, gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress operating on bombing missions from Englad. In the fall of ’43, he was listed as missing in action for about three months. For wounds received, and for gallantry, Sgt. Carter, has been awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.
