February 9, 1970i MCA Lenten Programs for Men, Women Begin This WednesdaySeveral changes have taken place in the Fairborn branchYMCA's annual Lenten programs for men and women which begin this Wednesday.Instead of luncheons for men, their programs this yearwill be 7 to 8 a.m. breakfasts each Wednesday at the YMCA.Tire program for women will remain the same, namely noon to 1 p.m. luncheons on Wednesday, also at the “Y.” The format change for the men evolved from a survey in which the consensus was that breakfasts would be better attended.“That They All May Be One,” the YMCA symbol, is the theme of the seven consecutive Wednesday sessions. Scripture basis for this theme is John 17:21 - “That they all may be one as Thou Father art in me and 1 in Thee, that they also may be one.”WITH ONE exception, thesame minister will speak at the breakfast and luncheon each Wednesday. On March, 18, for the program entitled “Service,” Rabbi Paul Spiro, bureau of the Jewish education, Dayton, will speak at noon and the Rev. Fr. J. Thomas Rolfes of Mary, Help of Christians will be the speaker for the breakfast.This Wednesday, the Rev. Aubert Rose of the First Baptist church, will speak on “Brotherhood.” The Rev. Ronald Byers, United Missionary church, speaks Feb. 18 on “Hospitality; Chaplain (Capt.) Miguel A. Taitano speaks on“Fellowship” on Feb. 25; the Rev. Glink of St. Mark’s Lutheran church speaks on “Forgiveness” on March 4; the Rev. George Reed of the Maple ave. Church of God, will be heard on March 11, speaking on “Kindliness,” and on March 25, the Rev. Gerald Salters of the Fairborn United Methodist church will bring the series to a close with his talk on “Hope.”This is the 11th year that the religious emphasis committee at the “Y” has sponsored the Lenten programs for men and the 9th year that the women’s program has been in existence, sponsored jointly by the religious emphasis committee and the women’s program committee.THE LUNCHEON programsare so planned that the women can eat and participate in one hour and be free for earlyafternoon appointments and commitments. Women who areworking outside the home can be returning to work by 1 p.m. A nursery will be available for children one through six years of age.About the speakers:Rabbi Spiro, an educator and author, was born in Jerusalem, Israel. He is a graduate of Mizrachi Teachers college, graduate study Hebrew university, and graduate of the University of Vermont. A Daytonian, he is director, bureau of Jewish education, and consultant for cultural activities of the Dayton Jewish community council. He has been director, principal, superintendent and dean of schools and colleges. His latest publication is “Fundamentals of Judaism” printed in 1969. He has received the Nate curriculum awards and Emanuel Gamoran Memorial awards.Fr. Rolfes has been with Mary, Help of Christians church since June, 1962 as assistant pastor. He is a graduate of St. Mary’s seminary in Norwood and served St. Ann’s church, Hamilton, as assistant pastor before coming to Fairborn.The Rev. Rose served as associate pastor of the Fairborn First Baptist church before assuming the pastorate in March, 1968. A native of Cleveland, he holds a bachelor of science degree from Bethel college, McKenzie, Tenn., and a bachelor of Bible degree from Baptist Bible institute. He was ordained in January, 1951.THE REV. BYERS has been pastor of the Fairborn United Methodist church since January, 1966. Native of Canada, both he and his wife served with the India industrial mission in Calcutta during a Five year ministry prior to accepting pastorate of the Fairborn church.Chaplain Taitano is the Protestant chaplain at the Air Force medical center, Wright-Patterson AFB. He is a graduate of Central Methodist college, Fayette, Mo., and Bethel Theological seminary, St. Paul, Minn. He joined the Air Force in 1966 and has been at Wright-Patterson AFB since July,1969.The Rev. Glink has been in Fairborn just about two months. He formerly served the pastorates of First Lutheran church, Donnelsville, and Trinity Lutheran church, Vermilion. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Thiel college, Greenville, Pa., and his bachelor of divinity degree from Hamma Theological seminary of Wittenberg university.THE REV. REED, a graduate of Anderson (Ind.) college and Anderson Theological seminary, has been pastor of the Maple ave. church since 1957. He was formerly assistant pastor of the Springfield First Church of God. The Rev. Reed has served as president of the Fairborn Ministerial association.The Rev. Salters was graduated from Ohio State university in 1963 with a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and from the Ohio Methodist Theological school in 1966 with a degree of master of divinity. Before becoming associate minister of the Fairborn United Methodist church, he had pastored in Dayton.RLV. GERALD SALTERS REV. GORDON GLINK CHAPLAIN MIGUEL TAITANOTomorrowThe Mary, Help of Christians school variety show tomorrow at 10 a.m. will feature 14 student acts and one surprise faculty act. Students in the fifth through eighth grade auditioned last wek.Eighth grade students will open the show with a skit “Ugliest Man in the World” by John Datin, Fred Forman, Pat Miller, Tom Kirsch and Tom Chippie. The same students will follow in another skit “Candy Store.” Tom Killoren will sing “Cross-eyed Gal” then JimREV. RONALD BYERSFischer, Joe Nabozny, Barry Plumlee, and Steve Shutte will do a skit called “Mr. Skinner.” Patty Jacomis, Jennifer Wagner, Becky Thinnes, Sheila Smalley, Stephanie Sebasky and Joyce Langenderfer will be featured in a “5’ 2” Charleston concluding the eighth grade portion of the* show.From the seventh grade Ken Rodin will do a trumpet solo “Aquarius” followed by Cheryl and Denise Deschaine in a ventriloquist act. “Say A LittleREV. FR. J. THOMAS ROLFESPrayer” will be sung by Marilyn Gammage and Lynn Aker. Lynn then will join Cathy Schmid singing “Sidewalks of New York.”Marcella Lumpp of the sixth grade will do a monologue and Sharon Griffin will be featured in a baton number. The fifth grade students participating include Jamie Lorette and Phyllis Lloyd in “Jet Plane,” Lois Zarycki as a baton twirler to “Taste of Honey,” and Margaret Luft in a dance to “Indian Lake.”The surprise faculty act will conclude the performance.
