MV Feb. 8 CAP)—Four brothers who turned cave dwellers in a mountainous southwestern wilderness, living on wild game and home-canned fruits arid vegetables for four months to avoid limitary service, then surrendered without a fight, were brought to court today to face charges of Violating the selective service act: The quartet, Jesse Lee Caudill, 33 years old; Preston Caudill, 28; RoyStephen Caudill, 21; and Earl Ray Caudill, 19; admitted their guilt before Jethro S. Vaught, U. S. commissioner, just 24 hours after they left their hideout in remote Catron county on the urging of their father, and gave themselves up to a posse of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and New Mexico State police.; D. A. Bryce, FBI agent in chargeat El Paso, Tex., who, with Capt. Frank Young of the state police, led the hunt for the quartet, said the brothers have been sought since their burned automobile was found last October near Quemado, N. M. Then last week came a tip on their hideout in •'Pretty Boy Floyd can-SanM (so named because the late ublic Enemy No. 1 was reported to have hidden there)—three caves expertly concealed and well-provisioned.f A posse of more than a dozen officers moved into the area and set a 24-hour watch over the caves. The father, Jesse Caudill, 59, was prevailed upon to talk to the brothers and the surrender followed without a shot being fired.Three trap guns (which could be set off when a wire was touched) guarded the caves and Bryce said the brother* had said they wouldkill any officers who molested them. But the trap guns were used only for killing game, Bryce quoted the brothers as saying ana not forkilling officers”..v. w% • 11ttIb1taaiiSAti1-tihCiSco£daaooae
