Regimental headqus . is in the valley while the hospital la on the hill and it is some drill betweenThis town like all other French towns that I have seen is very unsanitary with no drainage system. The French do not drink any water and we are ordered n »t to unless It has been boiled first, which Is very hard to do as wood is very scarce so we have to drink the wine which is of two kinds, the white and the red. I thinkone could drink either all day and feel no ill effe -ts from it unless one became slefc. It is quite alarge one but I haven’t had a chance togo through It ao far.Mong with my other duties I have been made Mesa” Officer which meansa lot more work. Christmas day we had another regular feed, just about the same as the one we had Thanksgiving only Vetter.New Year’s day was the same as anyother day except that we didn’t work in the afternoon.lt; n Jan 3rd we got an order to leav e town the next day and rejoin the regiment which we did. The train was th«( slowest that I ever saw and took two days and two nights to make a trip that It should have made in about tenhours at the most.
