ENTERS ‘'SOLDIERS’ HOMEWilliam A. Byrd Goes From Thlg County After Serving In the PhilippineIslands.—William A. Byrd, of this city, depart'd fcr Quincy to enter the Illinois Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. He Is the first man who has entered the home from this county (is a Spanish war veteran. He expects to take six months' hospital treatment, after which he will return to this city. Mr. Byrd Is a late member of Company A. Thirty-ninth I*. 8. V., and he saw hard field service In the Philippines. He went through five bsl-tles, and his present physical condition Is said to he (flu* primarily to swamp fevor contracted In the Island while in tho service.
