From the 20th Regiment, 1st ■Bxgade, 3d Division.HaniBvill?, Ark., Jan. 9th, 1863.We arrived bore day before yesterday,, and; shall, probably ;remain here for ''some' ftime. - Our division is the only oooberci .The first and second arc within supporting distance, so that if we .are attacked, assistance can bo readily bad. But -of this, there ia no danger, • we think, asGeneral Hindman i*. at Little Eock;.and Iimagine that wo. shall.have to.go for thorn,--instead of their, ooming to tig. We are about 95 miles’from Springfield, and 200, miles from;Little ltdek,•. 1 Our raen are sadly in want of'olotbingj' a largo number are .without stockings^ and1 tbeir other clothing is as'ragged as you; can imagine. Tbo regimen t-numbers some 850, prasent and absent, A good many are absent. Dr. Monk,our first' Assistant Surgeon,-Las resigned. . You .'have probably ore this, received various^ accounts of tiie battle, mine as well as others. All, concur in giving, the. 20th the bigbost praise for tbeir donduot. It has been oloarly earned, I assure you. The credit' for our success is due to (JoI. Bertram, as brave .and good a soldier as there is in the service. If they would appoint such men Brigadier Generals, instead of a great many who have been appointed from civil life, who have not .seen service or over been in a fight, this war would soon beat an end. .
