Donald KulbackiDonald Kulbacki of Neepawa, formerly of Eden, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 1995, in the Brandon Hospital following a short illness, with family at his side.Donald was the fourth child born to Anthony and Josephine Kulbacki on June 2, 1920, on the Polonia farm. He attended Polonia school and at the age of 14 started working on various threshing gangs around the district and hauling logs out of Riding Mountain Park, besides helping on the family farm.During the Second World War, Donald was drafted into the army, trained in Western Canada, and served with the 2nd Battalion, Winnipeg Grenadiers in the Pacific Ocean, including Kiska in the Aleutian Islands. After4 years in the army, he was awarded the Good Conduct Badge.Upon being discharged, he returned home and married Mary Kasprickin St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, in Polonia, on October 19,1946. They purchased the home farm in Polonia from Donald's parents and began with very little to build their farm and their life together. Eleven years later they bought the farm east of Eden where Donald continued mixed farming. This lifetime career brought daily satisfaction and pleasure.Donald’s family and life on the farm were the most important things on earth to him. He was successful in being a husband, father, grandfather, farmer, family member and friend. He had a great deal of self-taught wisdom,and by his life and example, he taught truth, honesty, independence, and an appreciation for the simple things in life. For this, and for his continual guidance, his family will always cherish and honour his memory.Donald had 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by Beatrice (Frank) Szucki, Paul (Francis), Agnes (Bill) Suski, Fred, Frank (Grace), Violet (Steve) Makway, Terry (Gail) and by his sisters-in-law Francis and Gladys, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Josephine and by his brothers John and Alvin.He will be sadly missed by Mary, his loving wife of 48 years, and by his five children: Richard, Janet and her husband Don, Larry and his wife Beverly, David, Ronald and his wife Nadine; also by his grandchildren: Brian (his fiance Krista), John and Angie Osborne, and Mathew andErica Kulbacki.Prayers were led by Velda Bradley at White’s Funeral Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27,1995. Funeral service was held at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, Neepawa, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28,1995, Father David Kowalski of Brandon officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery, Neepawa.Ushers were: Donald Baraniuk, Bill Jakubowski, Richard Kasprick and Danny Guillas. Active pallbearers were: Raymond Kulbacki, Ralph Kulbacki, Leonard Kaspick, Dennis Suski, Mick Kulbacki, and Jerry Suski. Honorary pallbearers were: Garry Kulbacki, Joyce Schell, Bob and Margaret Lowry, John and Annie Baraniuk, Donald and Irene Suski, Della Spiss, Henry and Rose Kuharski, Ken and Joan Kennedy, Ludwig Jakubowski, Maurice Cochrane, Murray and Allie Elliott, Kelly Bateman, Frank Ford, and Joe and Jean Jakubowski,White’s Funeral Home, Neepawa, was in charge of arrangements.Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Donald’s name.
