♦Iwo Veteran to See InitiationOne of the veterans who participated in the now-famous flag raising ceremony on Iwo Jima, John H. Bradley of Appleton, will be a guest of Kenosha Post 21 and Paul Herrick Post 429 at the public initiation ceremony Feb. 20, it was announced at the regular meeting of Post 21 Tuesday night.The announcement was made byPaul Saftig, chairman of the committee, who also revealed furtherplans for the “welcome home”class initiation. According to Saftig. the class may number as many as 1,000 ex-servicemen and women. He estimated that one-half of Kenosha’s 8,000 veterans are nowhome, and declared that an invitation is extended to all of them to join either of the local posts.Commander Leo Meyer declared that Post 21 is greatly concerned with the problem of housing for veterans in Kenosha, and that a committee is being named to study the problem and to make recommendations for action by the Legion.Following the meeting, moviesMaxey at Briston, Tenn. Surviving are his widow and a son, Levert, Jr., and a daughter, Kathryn. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Vandenberg, Kenosha, and by three sisters, Mrs. Ruth O’Brien, Kenosha; Mrs. E. H. Floyd and Mrs. Alex Benz, both of Chicago.of the 1945 World Series were shown.An interesting sidelight of the meeting was the attendance ofMiss Marion CafTerty, recently discharged as a lieutenant in theArmy Nurse Corps after three years in service, including two years overseas. She returned from India, and is now a member of Post 21.Arthur Piepenburg, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Piepenburg, Lake Shore road, has been discharged from the marines at Great Lakes after four years in service. 30 months of which were spent overseas in the Pacific.
