Berkeley Leatherneck Promoted at Air BaseJIMarine Staff Sgt. Alfred I. Mel-cer, Jr.. son of Mr. and Mrs.Alfred Melcer, of 1500 McGee Ave.,has been promoted from sergeant to h;s present rank while stationed at the Marine Corps Air ! Station, Cherry Point, N. C., it was learned here today.Staff Sergeant Melcer is serving with a unit of the Ninth Marine , Aircraft Wing, which is in combat training at that base.Melcer, a graduate of the University of Santa Clara, enlisted in the Marine Corps on Nov. 16, 1942.
