CHAMBER HEARS TALK BY CAPTAM BLUMThe Noreo Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday evening at the Community Center for the regular meeting and potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Many members and guests were present. Oz Butler, president, presided.Committees were named by Mr. Butler. They include: Mrs. Helene Bender, county, improvement; Mrs. Florence Copenhaver, courtesy and flowers; Mrs. S3. W. Walters, citizens advisory; Mrs. Mansfield Williams, alternate to citizens advisory; Mrs. Eleanor Brin-ton, membership; Kirk Parmenter, rules and regulations; Mrs. Ina Butler, music; Mrs. Wllda Rickhoff, telephone and recreation; Howard Ford, parks and recreation; Bill Kennedy, entertainment; Mrs. Ella Miles, greeters; Mrs. B. Hollis Barnett, dinners; Bill Theim, fair. All members of the board of directors are on the ways and means com-tnittee. ir * “Captain Miles Blum was-guest speaker of«the evening. Captain Blum spoke on the Korean situation and of his duties' as an airlift pilot, during the Korean campaign and World War II.He stated he had been recalled into the service in 1950 and was sent to McCord ‘Air Force Base, where the first Pacific air lift was practiced. He was sent to Great Falls, Mont., to a pilot school and later was stationed in Japan at the Air Lift Base. Their duties were to carry wounded boys out of Korea. He spoke on the necessity of giving blood plasma and of the many lives being saved by having it.He urged all people to write the boys in Korea as it is important to keep up their morale. He stated that they were doing a tremendous job in this fight and any word from home is a boost to them. Captain Blum is a very sincere person and all who were present were greatlyenthused by his talk.Reports were given from all committees and Mrs. E. Walters gave a report on the recent meeting of the Citizens Advisory committee. A special gathering will be held Feb. 10 in the Junior High School library for a discussion of the school bond issue special election on Feb. 20.Plans are being made for some type of recreation for children at the Center during the summer months. It was stated that on Feb. 16 the new mail route, No. 2, would go into effect. A vote of thanks was given to the Harry Brintons, who worked so tirelessly on this project.Kirk Parmenter asked the support of the community to help keep the river banks free of debris, as many cans, garbage, and dead animals are dumped there.A vote was taken to donate money for a tree. This is a project of the Grange and all organizations are asked to help in this cause to beautify the community. Money is to be given to Frank or JeannetteHazen for the purchase.Earl Copenhaver announced the jitney potluck that Boy Scout Troop 38 is giving at the Legion Hal,l Thursday evening, Feb. 26, to raise funds for sponsoring two Scouts at the National Jamboree at Camp Irvine this year. An invitation was extended to all members to attend.It was stated that registration of cars may be available in Norco next year, instead of having to make the usual trip to Riverside? or sending to Sacramento. Mr. Hazen said there would be a Ground Observers Corps joint meeting at the Community Center on Tuesday, Feb. IT.The program for the evening consisted of request songs which were presented by the Woman's Progressive Club Chorus. Mrs. Ina Bptler directed the group and Mrs. Grace Moore was narrator. Mrs. Helene Bender accompanied on the piano. The groung sapg several numbers which were greatly enjoyed by all present.
