25 R. 0. T. C. Studen Given Military Honlt;STATEMENT BY FORMER MAYOR SEASONGOODSay* Item Did Hot Cover fully What Trantpired.Former Mayor Murray Season good sends the following regarding an item published In the Timas Star:May I call your attention and that of your readers to the report tag In your issue of February 4 of the hearing of Mr. Snnektag's appeal to the State Civil Service Commission from what Mr. Enn eking.« civil service employe, contends amounted to a dismissal of him by Auditor Guckenberger for political reasons. You do not mention that, while Mr. Ouckenberger used the word* indicated in your report, under immediately subsequent questioning he admitted that one of his employes, whose name he gave, did viait the lady previously referred to and after informing her that the valuation of her home property was to be reduced, said, in substance, “Now, in gratitude, you ought to vote against the county charter.” This was what Mr. Guckenberger was asked by me and he was not asked by me as to whether the auditor’s employes had offered appraisal reductions for votes against the county charier in the last elecT tion. So. the fact is. which certainly does not appear from your report, that Mr. Guckenberger, after first saying what was asked him was a lie, admitted the truth of what had been stated in its entirety.“Neither does your report show what Mr. Enneklngs appeal states and the testimony substantiates, namely, that Mr. Guckenberger told him about November 15, 1935. and again on December 14 that he wanted him out because he was not with them politically and that he wanted his resignation before the first of the year. Mr. Guckenberger admitted this on cross-examination and further stated that when he made these statements to Mr. En-rieklng he had. at those times, no thought of economy whatsoever, although he knew that the extra levy asking for approximately $500-000 for the county's budget had failed. It was further developed that Mr. Guckenberger had given various pay increases and Imd taken on additional employes not under civil service over a period of months following his taking of office in March and that none of these employes had been attempted to be laid off Without wishing to review the whole case. It does seem to me that you ought to give a correct report of a semi-judicial proceeding, and I request that you, therefore, kindly publish this letter.”Reserve Officers University ConvocatkApproximately twenty-five Dr. versity of Cincinnati students re’ cetved military honors and recognition of various types at the University's first military convocation Wednesday noon In Wilson Memorial Hall. The recipients of these awards are co-operative students in the College of Engineering and Commerce Mid cadets in the University unit of the Reserve Officers Training CorpsSpeaking in Baptist jTHE REV.
