Inf., now a prominent stock raiser of Odebolt, Iowa, stopped long enough in Ames on Tuesday, while en route to Chicago with cattle, to have a pleasant chat with his old comrade, the editor. Mr. Johnson was color sergeant of his regiment. At the battle of Carrion Crow Bayou, La..he was severely wounded in the thigh, but held on to the tlag, and when its capture seemed inevitable from the heavy loss sustained by the regiment and the overpowering numbers of the enemy, dragged himself from tiie battle line, covered the flag with brush and leaves, and fell a prisoner in the hands of the foe. He saved the tlag at the j peril of his own life, and demonstrated in the act a heroism as grand as was ever exhibited during the late w ar. The tlag was afterwards recovered by the regiment regaining the lost ground, but a we doubt whether Sergeant Johnson ever received the recognition so justly due him for his devotion to the colors ot his command.Hely sAersofftafftshebetVoflelkmscrthav.it1-itISpillthemgon!glHmane'torelteilocedmiIt.
