The Council has rejected the proposition. It looks as if the railway company will have to give the people three cent fares and still continue to pay the percentage.Maj. John W. Walker, of Erie, the new U. S. Marshal for this district, is 55 yearsold. He is a veteran of the war, having served in the 145th regiment, P. V. He was Captain of a company, and after service in the battle of Fredericksburg was promoted to Paymaster, with the rank of Major.
