Kibke’s Lecture.—A select and Intel* ligenfc audience listened to the lecture of Edmund Kirke on Wednesday evening at Masonic Hall on Southern society. The lecture was a rare treat, presented in the direct and natural style of a sincero and conscientious man. It was the story of one who had walked the fields and streets where dwell the people he describes—one who had seen and studied Sonthern society in all its phases— who had heard its cries and felt Us wants, andthe conclusions he advances respecting the course to bo pursued to make the yeomanry of the South equal to the character of the North, wore both new and striking, but doubtless true. His sketches of the three classes of Southern society were capital. We regretthat more of our citlzons did not hear of the► % * -lecture. It was certainly worthy of a full houBe.War Meeting.—There will be a war meet-*ing hold at the school house in the rear of the colored Mothodist Episcopal Church, on Monday evening next, for the purposo of recruiting for the colored battalion. The speakers of the evening will be W. P. Fish-back, Esq., and the Bov. Garland H. White, colored. Mr. White has been appointed by the military authorities to assist in raising the colored battalion, and has already recruited twenty-seven men. Ho is a resident of Ohio, but is now actively engaged in can-vatBing this State. He enlisted as a private, which ia one reason for his success, as men arc ever more willing! to enlist with a man who is himself a bona fide soldier. Let colored men flock to such a leader.Aid for Frkedmek . — The Indianapolis Branch of the Indiana Freedmcn's Aid Oom-miesion have appointed the Rev. Madison Hume and Bov. John C.
