—Leota Ingham brought ub a little book consisting of the diary of a Fort Madison boy kept while in the service during the last little war. George Baxter was a private of Co. G, Seventh regiment of regulars, Third brigade, Socond division of the Fifth army corps, lie was in all the lighting about Santiago and having noted down the incidents as they occurred with his feelings and his personal surroundings, and being gifted as a narator of events, he has given the people a very interesting little book. Mr. Baxter was born in this city and iived here during his early youth and himself and family will be well remembered by our older citizens.
